The National Instruments PXI-1408 device is a monochrome, high-accuracy, IMAQ board that supports RS-170, NTSC, and PAL video standards as well as some nonstandard cameras from any of four input sources. This device acquires frames in real time and transfers them directly to system memory. It features an 8-bit flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that converts video signals to digital formats.

The PXI-1408 is low cost and has high accuracy making it ideal for both industrial and scientific environments. Used by itself, this device supports 4 video sources and 4 external I/O lines that can be used as triggers or digital I/O lines. When additional I/O lines or advanced triggering are needed, the PXI-1408 and NI-IMAQ can be used with the National Instruments data acquisition (DAQ) product line.

The PXI-1408 uses Real-Time System Integration (RTSI) to synchronize several functions to a common trigger or timing event.
