The National Instruments GPIB-422CV MicroGPIB IEEE 488 To/From RS-422 Converter provides a method of connecting a device with an RS-422 port to the IEEE 488 bus (GPIB). The GPIB-422CV transparently converts data between two ports so that control codes or special commands are not required. The GPIB-422CV also increases the efficiency of the interface system by isolating the slower device from the faster port with a character buffer. This buffer is used to offload the host computer during printer and plotter applications.

The GPIB-422CV is capable of interfacing either a GPIB Controller or a GPIB device to a computer or instrument with an RS-422 port. It can be used to interface a GPIB device to a computer with an RS-422 port, or to connect an RS-422 device such as a printer or plotter to GPIB network. Data transfers in either direction are possible at all times.
