Overview

Product overview

Key product information and technical features.

The NI-9512 interfaces motion-control signals to an external stepper drive rather than supplying motor power directly. NI documents a complete integration workflow with ISM-7400/7401/7402 integrated steppers, including drive commands, enable signals, encoder wiring, and SoftMotion axis configuration.

NI 951x drive interface modules use the NI RIO Scan Engine to connect SoftMotion with motor drives. Encoder settings and drive signals are configured in the LabVIEW project without requiring FPGA programming for this interface.

  • Home-switch and limit-switch inputs for axis referencing and travel limits.
  • Incremental encoder feedback and general-purpose digital I/O.
  • Position capture and position compare functions.
  • Onboard spline interpolation and NI step-generation processing.

FAQ

Product-specific questions

Product-specific answers based on available technical information.

Can the NI-9512 power a stepper motor directly?

No. It provides drive-command signals to an external stepper drive or integrated stepper. NI's integration guide shows separate module and motor-drive power connections.

Can the NI-9512 be used in a CompactDAQ chassis?

No. NI states that C Series motor drive interface modules, including the NI-9512, require a RIO-based system and do not work in CompactDAQ chassis.

Does the NI-9512 require FPGA programming for SoftMotion integration?

NI's documented NI 951x Scan Engine interface allows encoder settings and drive signals to be configured in the LabVIEW project without FPGA programming.
