NI-9211

The NI-9211 is a four-channel C Series thermocouple input module for CompactDAQ and CompactRIO chassis. It combines 24-bit conversion and ±80 mV inputs with cold-junction compensation and open-thermocouple detection.

The NI-9211 provides thermocouple signal acquisition in a modular C Series system. Its four measurement channels are supplemented by internal autozero and cold-junction compensation channels.

Acquisition is scanned rather than simultaneous. NI specifies 70 ms per channel and 420 ms for a complete scan including the internal autozero and cold-junction channels. These timing details matter when planning temperature measurement updates.

Which thermocouple types does the NI-9211 support?

It supports J, K, T, E, N, B, R and S thermocouples over their NIST-defined temperature ranges.

Does the NI-9211 sample all four inputs simultaneously?

No. It uses scanned acquisition, with a conversion time of 70 ms per channel. A scan of all measurement and internal compensation channels takes 420 ms.

Are the thermocouple channels isolated from each other?

No. The channels share a common ground. The specified continuous isolation is 250 V RMS from channel to earth, Measurement Category II.

What affects temperature measurement accuracy?

Thermocouple type, sensor accuracy, measured temperature, wire resistance and cold-junction temperature all affect accuracy. NI recommends minimizing thermal gradients and nearby heat sources at the terminals.
