PXI-6651

The NI PXI-6651 is a slave synchronization module for routing externally generated clock and trigger signals in multi-chassis PXI systems. It distributes signals through front-panel SMB connections and the PXI backplane rather than generating timing signals internally.

Overview

Product overview

Key product information and technical features.

The PXI-6651 provides the slave-side routing function in a shared timing architecture. NI documents its use alongside PXI-6652 and PXI-6653 timing modules to transfer clock and trigger signals between chassis.

Signal routing is configured with NI-Sync. NI's multi-chassis DSA guidance places slave timing modules in Slot 2 when distributing the oversample clock through PXI Star; installation and routing therefore depend on the measurement architecture.

  • Routes externally generated timing signals without internal signal generation.
  • Uses front-panel SMB connections to exchange clock and trigger signals with other chassis.
  • Supports NI-Sync configuration of timing and trigger routes.

Slave timing-signal routing module

Master timing modules

NI documents PXI-6652 and PXI-6653 modules as signal-generating modules in multi-chassis arrangements using PXI-6651 slave modules.

Check slot placement, signal routing, and driver support for the intended system; the PXI-6651 requires externally generated timing signals.

FAQ

Product-specific questions

Product-specific answers based on available technical information.

Does the PXI-6651 generate its own timing signals?

No. NI identifies the PXI-6651 as a routing module for externally generated signals, unlike the PXI-6652 and PXI-6653, which can generate clock and trigger signals.

Which software configures its timing routes?

NI-Sync configures the timing routes. For the multi-chassis DSA implementation described by NI, NI-Sync is used alongside NI-DAQmx.
