The NI-9401 provides eight bidirectional digital channels within the NI C Series module family. It uses 5 V TTL logic, single-ended signaling, and a D-SUB front connection.

Direction is configured in groups of four channels, allowing eight inputs, eight outputs, or four inputs and four outputs. This grouping is important when assigning signals: direction is not independently selectable for each channel.
