The HDD-8261 places storage inside the PXI Express chassis rather than in a standalone disk enclosure. Its onboard PCI Express SATA controller supports the module's drives.

Streaming performance depends on the drive variant and system configuration. NI documents HDD write speeds up to 250 MB/s in RAID 0 across approximately 80% of disk capacity, while the SSD variant supports write speeds up to 2 GB/s.

Is the HDD-8261 a standalone hard disk?

No. It is an in-chassis PXI Express data storage module with an onboard SATA controller.

Does the HDD-8261 include hardware RAID?

No. NI specifies software RAID because the module has no hardware RAID controller.
