Does the USB-9162 support every NI C Series module?

No. It supports only a subset. NI recommends consulting the readme for the specific NI-DAQmx driver release, including any restrictions on connector or hardware variants.

Does the USB-9162 require an external power supply?

The carrier is USB bus-powered.

Why does an empty USB-9162 not appear in NI MAX?

NI states that the carrier alone does not appear in MAX or Hardware Configuration Utility. Without a module, Windows Device Manager may identify it as '9162 No Cartridge'; a supported installed module is needed for module detection.
