The second port accommodates peripheral devices such as displays or external storage. NI does not support using it to connect another PXIe chassis.

Can the PXIe-8301 connect to an ordinary USB-C host port?

No. The USB Type-C connector must provide Thunderbolt connectivity; an ordinary USB-only port is insufficient.

Can the second port connect another PXIe chassis?

No. NI supports that port for peripherals, not multiple PXIe chassis. Either port can serve as the host connection.

Does the PXIe-8301 work in a conventional PXI chassis?

No. It requires a PXI Express chassis and is not compatible with conventional PXI chassis.

Can it be used with Thunderbolt 4 or Thunderbolt 5 hosts?

NI reports Thunderbolt 4 support except for systems using Maple Ridge-based internal controllers. NI identifies Thunderbolt 5 connections as incompatible with these PXIe Thunderbolt devices; verify the host controller before selecting a computer.
