The PXI-8422/2 adds isolated RS-232 instrument communication to a PXI system. It is the two-port member of the PXI-8422 family; the four-port version uses a different connector arrangement.

Software selection is important for this legacy interface: NI states that NI-Serial 17.0 removed support for the PXI-8422 family. Verify the older driver release and operating-system requirements before integrating the module.

Does the PXI-8422/2 support RS-485 or RS-422?

No. NI identifies this model as RS-232. The isolated two-port RS-485/RS-422 model in the legacy family is the PXI-8423/2.

Is the isolation rating 2000 V continuously?

No. NI specifies 60 VDC continuous isolation, CAT I, for both port-to-port and port-to-host isolation. The 2000 Vrms value is a withstand rating verified by a 5-second dielectric test.

Does NI-Serial 17.0 support this module?

No. NI states that NI-Serial 17.0 removed support for the PXI-8422 family. Review the requirements of an appropriate older driver release and the intended operating system.

Are all standard DB-9 RS-232 control signals connected?
