Overview

Product overview

Key product information and technical features.

The PXI-6608 adds an oven-controlled reference oscillator to the counter/timer functionality of the 6602. Its stable 10 MHz output can serve as a counter GATE or SOURCE, or provide the PXI backplane reference when installed in slot 2.

NI also documents GPS-referenced timestamping and triggering with the PXI-6608, an external GPS receiver, and appropriate software. This is a system-level application, not a built-in GPS receiver.

  • Counter inputs and outputs can be routed internally or externally.
  • Hardware triggering can start multiple counters simultaneously.
  • Slot-2 operation allows the OCXO to supply a stable reference to other modules phase-locked to the PXI backplane clock.

FAQ

Product-specific questions

Product-specific answers based on available technical information.

How does the PXI-6608 differ from the PXI-6602?

NI describes the 6608 as a functional superset of the 6602, adding an oven-controlled crystal oscillator.

Must the PXI-6608 be installed in slot 2?

Slot 2 is required to use its OCXO as the PXI backplane clock. In other slots, the counter timebase follows the existing backplane reference.

Can the PXI-6608 synchronize to GPS timing?

NI documents synchronization using an external GPS receiver providing PPS or DC-level IRIG-B signals, together with appropriate NI software and connections.
