The PCI-6515 provides separate input and output channels rather than bidirectional lines: 32 digital input-only channels and 32 digital output-only channels. Input banks can be wired for sinking or sourcing operation, while the outputs are sinking.

The device uses eight banks of isolated channels with 30 VDC bank isolation and 24 V logic levels. Programmable power-up states and digital I/O watchdogs allow configurable output behavior, while software-selectable input filters help reject glitches and debounce switches and relays.
