The PXI-6683 provides a synchronized timebase for timestamping input events and scheduling future events or clock signals. Its TCXO can be disciplined to an external time reference.

Unlike the PXI-6683H hybrid-slot variant, the PXI-6683 provides PXI star-trigger access and backplane clock routing. These distinctions matter when selecting a module for chassis-level synchronization.

Can the PXI-6683 be installed in a PXIe hybrid slot?

No. NI identifies the PXI-6683 as incompatible with PXIe hybrid slots. The PXI-6683H is the hybrid-slot variant and has different clock-routing and trigger capabilities.

Can it replace the PXI backplane reference clock?

Yes. In the PXI system timing slot, it can replace PXI_CLK10. This function must be explicitly enabled in software.

Which driver is required?

The module uses NI-Sync. For LabVIEW Real-Time systems, supported synchronization features depend on the operating system and NI-Sync version.
